Learning in weeks 7 & 8

Our prac teacher, Mrs Beckman has been doing most of the teaching in the last two weeks. The students have continued to be engaged with their learning over this time.  In Maths, she has assisted them with their skills in position; Multiplication and Division.  During Literacy, Mrs Beckman has honed her own skills in THRASS and led the class diligently.  The students have used Thinking Routines in HSIE and been creative in Father's Day card making.

Some students participated in the Infants Public Speaking Competition.  I was very impressed with those students who took the time to learn a poem and then recite it to the class.  The students also recited their poem to 1M, where Mrs Moffatt and myself made the decision as to which two students should represent each class.  From 1B it was James and Emily.  They then spoke in front of the entire Junior School, where 5 teachers made the final decision about who was the best Public Speaker in K-2. The winner will be announced this week.

Week 6 in 1B

We celebrated Book Week with a story teller visiting the Primary School on Wednesday and a Parade on Friday.

The story teller was from Young Australia Workshop and told the students about "Descendants of the Dragon".  He  used puppets to explain the legend of the four dragons and the rivers of China.

Week 5

We had a great time walking to the Australian Museum on Wednesday.  The sun was shining and we put a lot of smiles on people's faces as we made our way to the Museum.  There was a Science Fair on with different stalls being manned by scientific experts. The children had 45 minutes to wonder around the Fair and ask the scientists questions and participate with 'hands on' experiences.  A real highlight of the morning was coming across a Museum worker, that had a large goanna on his chest. He entertained the students with stories about reptiles, and then produced a baby crocodile for the students to 'pat'.

We go to the library for a lesson and borrowing every Tuesday.  Mrs Piggot would like us to try to remember our library books for returning on these days.  Some of us are better at remembering than others!!

In Maths this week we learnt all about Data.  We learnt to interpret, tally, total and graph the information.  We did this using blocks, dice, shapes, and smarties!
