Week 6 Term 2

We used the app BrainHQ when we had the iPads this week.  Mrs Robson shared how helpful this app is for memory improvement and faster processing speed.  You can have a look by pressing on the link to find out more.  BrainHQ link

In Mathematics this week we explored the concept of half.  We cut shapes in half and make pictures, we divided concrete materials in half and we drew pictures on the white boards.  Cutting pizza in half and an open-ended activity where the students were asked to draw a family that had half girls and half boys.

Week 5 Term 2

To end the week, parents and students watched some the Infants perform in a choir,  and watch some other students play their various instruments.  It was a wonderful opportunity for those students who have been practising hard, to show us what they have been learning. We were very proud of your efforts!  Well done.

The Infants Choir sang their heart's out!

 Cadel on the violin.

Daniel played the violin and then the piano!

Danielle clearly telling everyone the three pieces she was about to play on the piano.

Noray showing us how it is done.

 Victor's performance.

Didn't get the shot in time, but you can see Xavier's leg as he plays the piano!

Wonder of the Day

For the last two weeks, I have written a 'Wonder of the Day' on the blackboard outside 1B's classroom.  The wonder comes directly from the Wonderopolis Website.  It has been interesting to hear what the students think as we address the question, and then find out the answer on the website.  Some of the 'Wonders' have been "Where do ants live?', "What is the largest Shark?", "How do Roller Coasters work?", "What does it mean to be a good friend?"  So far, our favourite Wonder has been, "Why do you see your breath when it's cold?" click here on the link  and watch the toddler breathing out on a rather crisp day.  We found this very funny. We also learnt something new!

This week in Mathematics we have been focusing on Subtraction and Money. We had many hands on activities that helped the students understand these concepts better.

This week we had a new white board installed so we can put the magnetic sounds for THRASS on display.  These can then be used to help us with our spelling choices.

In HSIE this week, we used the Thinking Routine 'See, Think, Wonder' as we looked at a photo taken from a building in Cabramatta. We are looking at how the Asian culture has influenced Australian life.

News this week was interesting and engaging as we continue to learn about different cultures.

Emily's news had palm cards and the use of the interactive whiteboard.

Henry telling us about why people began to yodel.

Noray's favourite bedtime story is The 101 Dalmatians.

Tong's poster on Chinese food.  Tong's Grandmother eats fish eyes and snakes!

Victor showing us the wrapping paper used to wrap this present.

I use Twitter as my own Personal Learning Network (PLN).  I came across a recommendation from a colleague who used a site called GoNoodle  for Brain Breaks.  I thought this looked fabulous, so I started this with 1B this week.  We have chosen a class mascot, and the mascot grows as we do the Brain Breaks.  The program offers different ways to engage thinking, and receive feedback on what we do.  We love it!  Below is a photo taken using GoNoodle; we are doing karaoke to "Let it Go'' from the movie Frozen. What a hit!
