Week 2 Term 2

The Big Write

On Tuesday we spent much of the day developing our writing skills in our first 'Big Write.'  Based on a UK initiative, 'The Big Write' allows more time for provocation, discussion, reflection and analysis.

Firstly, we watched' La Luna" with 1S.

Secondly, we discussed the who, what, when, why and how of the story.

Thirdly, with partners, we sequenced the story and wrote key words.

Fourthly, Mrs Strachan and myself, modelled sentences that included adjectives.
Fifthly, the students wrote their own recount of the story.

Finally, the students re-told the story using puppets in small groups.

News Presentations

We had some more wonderful news presentations this week.  Mrs Robson came in to watch on Thursday morning and was very impressed with the information the students were sharing with the class.

Luigi's presentation of the Trojan horse was superb!

Noray showed us step-by-step how to make Gelato. Yum!

Victor has had first hand experience of being at the Forbidden City.

Daniel used 'explain everything' and made models of fireworks.

Emily made a poster about Ballet

Xavier explained the importance of St Patrick's Day.

Cadel has experienced Fireworks first hand, even if he was asleep at the time!

June talked about how people often enjoy going to the snow for their winter holidays.

Maths

We tessellated, designed and described 2D shapes this week.

In this activity, the students worked in pairs.  Concealing the shapes from each other, they had to describe the shape, including how many edges, angles, and sides the shape had.  The partner had to work out what the shape was and make an educated guess.

Mother's Day Afternoon

Our lovely Mum's came into 1B on Friday afternoon for some Mother's Day activities before spending some time together on the rooftop for afternoon tea.  Working with their children, Mum's made flowers and cards in preparation for Mother's Day on Sunday.

HSIE

We read the story about Peking Opera in HSIE.  We made our own Peking Opera masks.  Can you guess who we are behind our masks?
